Horsehair braid is a polyester/nylon crinoline braid that is used mainly at the hem of a skirt or dress to help give it body. It can also be used in making hats, wigs and flowers.
Horsehair braid is applied to a hemline of floor length skirts to add body without adding weight to the hem. It supports the shape of the hem and keeps it from collapsing. Stiffer fabrics will require stiffer braid. You don’t want to do a very stiff braid with a thin fabric, or it won’t move properly.
