The basics
Petersham is a thick, stiff, flexible corded ribbon.
-
The benefits
It is woven, so that once steamed it will take on and support a particular curve of fabric, for example, the brim of a hat.
-
The uses
Used as facing by milliners and tailors. It is also used as an alternative to bias tape for making fabric conform closely to the shape of the body wearing it, for example a corset or garment waistline.

The bottom line
Similar to grossgrain ribbon in appearance, but petersham can be shaped with an iron. Available 1" wide black or white. Also available in 1.5" width. Note: You need to order full meters as the system does not accept decimals. 1 meter is slightly longer than 1 yard, so if you need 3 yards order 3 meters.
